We’re excited to launch FLX Mesh, a community-built Meshtastic mesh network for the Finger Lakes region of New York.
What We’re Building#
FLX Mesh aims to provide resilient, long-range communication across the Finger Lakes using affordable LoRa radio hardware and the open-source Meshtastic platform. No cell towers, no internet required — just a growing mesh of community-operated nodes.
Why Now?#
Mesh networking has reached a tipping point. Meshtastic devices are inexpensive, the software is mature, and communities across the country are building networks like this one. The Finger Lakes region — with its hills, valleys, and lakes — is ideal terrain for a LoRa mesh network.
How to Get Involved#
- Get a device and join the network — It takes about 15 minutes
- Set up a fixed node — Rooftop and hilltop nodes are the backbone of the mesh
- Spread the word — The more nodes, the stronger the network
We’ll be posting updates here as the network grows. Welcome aboard.
